News Blast & Bulletin 10/30/2022

31st Sunday in OT

Greetings!

Your bulletin: https://saintspeterpaulpalmyra.org/october-30th-2022/

Here are the highlights:

  • OPEN POSITION – Sts. Peter and Paul is in need of a Coordinator of Religious Education & Youth Ministry. (p. 4)
  • The last 40 Days for Life vigil is November 2nd. If you are interested in joining the crew, they meet at Jefferson Pharmacy parking lot to carpool and leave no later than 9:15am. If you’d like to join but drive yourself, there is a parking lot across the street from Planned Parenthood. A word of caution, some folks are really angry, but we must remain non-confrontational and focus on prayer. God bless! (p. 9)
  • You are invited to a SPECIAL MASS on Saturday, October 29th at 10am for all those who love to meet with Jesus in our Adoration Chapel. Whether you are signed up for a weekly adoration time slot, drop by at various times on your own, or are simply interested in participating in adoration at Saints Peter & Paul. This Mass will be followed by a light breakfast, time of reflection, and Q&A. This is the Year of the Eucharist at SPP and it is our prayer that all parishioners encounter the real presence of Christ more and more. Please join us for this special time!
  • A Bonfire and the Rosary. This opportunity for food and fellowship is Saturday, October 29th after the vigil Mass. Treats for the kids. It will be chilly so bring a coat or blanket to stay warm and a chair to sit on.
  • New USHERS are needed at both Masses. This is an excellent way to serve. Contact Frank Pilk if you are interested (571.239.3373).
  • The CRAFTERS are back, hard at work, creating great trinkets and treasures for the November Craft Fair. They need your help for the Bake Sale: please bake or buy a cake, pie, cookies, brownies, etc. and drop off your goodies on Friday, November 11 before 5pm, or Saturday, November 12th before 10am.
    • St. Gabriel’s room is NOT available from now until after the Craft Fair. Please feel free to take your child to the Lounge if need arises.

Coming in November:

  • Mass for All Saints Day is Tuesday, November 1st at Noon and 7pm. This is a holy day of obligation.
  • Mass on All Souls’ Day is Wednesday, November 2nd at Noon and 7pm. There will not be a 9am at SPP.
  • The Knights will sponsor a Chili Cook-Off Sunday, November 6th from 2 – 4pm in the Hall. Please register after Mass this weekend.
  • Did you miss the opportunity to learn about DISC golf earlier this summer? There’s another chance to learn about the game on Nov. 6th at 2:30pm and Nov. 20th at 2:30pm. Talk to Joe Amato if you have any questions, otherwise, just show up at Pleasant Grove park (not the dog park) behind the playground. (p. 9)
  • Craft Fair – Nov. 12th from 8am – 2pm. Volunteers are needed to help set up beginning on Sunday, November 6th. Contact Cynthia Aycock (434.996.6065) if you’re able to help. (p. 9)
  • 12 hours of Adoration – November 18th – 19th, 2022 from 8pm to 8am. We are looking for a minimum of 2 volunteers for each hour (that’s 24 people) starting at 8pm on Friday till 8am on Saturday. *UPDATE*-it’s very exciting that the minimum number of adorers has been met! Please contact Denise Minor ([email protected]) if you would like to participate. (p. 8)
  • Nov. 17-20 – A PARISH MISSION to end our celebration of the Year of the Eucharist. We will have a guest speaker over several days, 12-hour Adoration (if we have enough volunteers), Benediction, Morning Prayers, opportunity for Confession, and fellowship. (p. 8)
  • Thanksgiving Dinner will be offered this year on Thanksgiving Day at 3pm in St. Francis. If you are by yourself or don’t have any plans, plan on coming to dinner at church. We do ask that you bring a side or dessert to share (please let us know what you are bringing); the turkey, stuffing, gravy, and cranberries will be provided. We need a count of how many plan to attend so please sign up on the sheet on the kitchen door in the Commons. Donations towards the purchase of turkeys are gladly accepted; there is a donation box in the Commons. (p. 9)
  • If you are in either building after normal business hours, please, please, please, be sure to:
    • NOT prop doors open (we cannot afford to heat/cool the outside).
    • turn lights/ceiling fans off (even if you didn’t turn them on)
    • turn off/unplug the portable heater/fan (chapel users only)
    • turn around and make sure the outermost doors have completely closed behind you. (Yank on the door to make sure it doesn’t open.) **This continues to be a problem.
    • Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

  • All Saints Day Mass is Tuesday, November 1st at 9am. This is a holy day of obligation. (p. 11)
  • All Souls’ Day Mass is Wednesday, November 2nd at 9am.
  • The next MASS IN SPANISH is this Sunday, November 6th at 2pm.
  • St. Joseph’s will have a baked goods table at the SPP Craft Fair this year. Please consider baking your favorite pie, cake, cookies, or anything else for our table. All proceeds from these sales goes directly to St. Joseph. (p. 11)

Peace-
Karen Davidson
