1st Sunday of Advent

Greetings!

Your bulletin: https://saintspeterpaulpalmyra.org/november-27th-2022/

Here are the highlights:

  • Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!! The office will be closed this Thursday and Friday in observance of the holiday.
  • Don’t forget that Thanksgiving Dinner is being served in St. Francis Hall for those who signed up, tomorrow afternoon starting at 3pm. Thank you for your generous donations for turkeys.
  • Thanksgiving Masses are at 5pm tonight at St. Joseph’s and tonight at 7pm at Sts. Peter and Paul.
  • Volunteers are needed to light the candles on the Advent Wreath this year. We are looking for certain families each week. See page 7 for details and let Deacon Bob or the office know if you are interested.
  • The office will have temporary hours of operation while Karen is away.
    • Monday 9am – 3pm
    • Tuesday CLOSED
    • Wednesday 9am – 3pm
    • Thursday 9am – 3pm
    • Friday 10am – 2pm
    • A HUGE thanks goes out to Marianne and Pat Amato for holding down the fort while I’m away.
  • Now that we have entered into Advent, Father David will celebrate Mass on Tuesdays at NOON during Advent. The first Mass will be on Tuesday, November 29th. Mass intentions are available for these Masses. There will not be a parish penance service this season but Father will hear confessions ½ hour before and after the noon Mass on these Tuesdays.
  • The Knights are collecting unwrapped, unisex gifts for kids, ages 0 – 12 years of age. Please leave your gifts under the Knights table in the Commons. (p. 8)
  • The Angel tree is up! We have 14 children and 2 seniors who will have nothing without your help. We ask that you prayerfully consider granting their wish this year. Please return gifts wrapped, with tag attached by December 12th. Please provide as little or as much of their wish list as you feel appropriate. The tag has all of the information that was provided to the office. There are also a few generic gift cards on the tree to help the office when people call asking for gas cards or food cards. Thank you for any amount you are able to offer. (p. 9)
  • Evelyn’s $ for the Girl Child is collecting new items for babies and their young mothers in Uganda. Please return these unwrapped and place in the baskets beside the Angel tree. Thank you for your support of this pilot program to help the babies and young mothers in Uganda. All of these tags have been taken! You are awesome parishioners!! Please continue to return these items by Dec. 12.
  • New USHERS are needed at both Masses. This is an excellent way to serve. Contact Frank Pilk if you are interested (571.239.3373).
  • In an ongoing effort, sneakers are being collected to benefit CHIU (Catholic Health Initiatives for Uganda). It doesn’t matter the condition. (p. 5)
  • Mark your calendars for Parents’ Night Out on Friday, December 2nd from 5:30pm to 9pm in the Parish Hall for children 3 years +. Our World Youth Day participants will host movies, crafts and snacks while parents enjoy an evening out. (p. 4)
  • SAVE THE DATE: Lessons & Carols is coming Sunday, December 11. We are asking for donations of festive cookies for this event.
  • If you are in either building after normal business hours, please, please, please, be sure to:
    • NOT prop doors open (we cannot afford to heat/cool the outside).
    • turn lights/ceiling fans off (even if you didn’t turn them on)
    • turn off/unplug the portable heater/fan (chapel users only)
    • turn around and make sure the outermost doors have completely closed behind you. (Yank on the door to make sure it doesn’t open.) **This continues to be a problem.
    • Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

  • The next MASS IN SPANISH is this Sunday, December 4th at 2pm.
  • The St. Joseph’s WYD group is holding a clothing drive. Gently used clothing items can be dropped off in the parish hall repository.

Peace-
Karen Davidson
