29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Here are the highlights for the upcoming week and beyond:
- The Crafters are selling raffle tickets for a Thanksgiving Dinner basket and a Wine basket after all weekend Masses leading up to the Craft Fair, where the winners will be drawn.
- The Holiday Craft Fair returns Saturday, November 9th from 8am – 2pm in the Parish Hall.
- Set-up for the Craft Fair begins in Sunday, November 3rd after the 11am Mass. Much HELP is needed. All of the tables needed for the Craft Fair and all of the baskets that have been created to sell at the Craft Fair need to be moved from St. Michael’s room over to the Hall. Please let Cynthia know if you are able to help.
- During the month of October, you are invited to show your love for our Blessed Mother, Mary, by leaving flowers on the table placed at the base of her statue. Thank you for all of the flowers you have been bringing in. There are vases set aside in the kitchen for this purpose.
- Our flower guild is now 3 parishioners strong but we need to expand to a minimum of 6 members. This team will rotate on a weekly basis and concentrate their efforts on arranging flowers each week in the church. The time commitment is about an hour a week for one person, in most cases. Please see page 6 in the bulletin or contact the office at 434.589.5201.
- The next Youth Group event is a Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 25th at 6:30pm at Sts. Peter and Paul. If you would like to decorate your trunk (as a scene from the Bible or something faith-based) and hand out treats, please sign up, or if you would like to donate treats, please place them in the collection box in the Commons. We are also in need of volunteers to prepare and serve refreshments on the evening of the 25th. We will pray the Rosary around the bonfire and roast marshmallows for S’mores. Children are asked to dress up in family-friendly costumes: nothing violent or horror-based, no weapons. Contact Celeste at [email protected] with questions, or to volunteer. The final planning meeting for this event is on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:30pm (SPP).
- All Saints’ Day is a Holy Day of Obligation (HDO) and is coming up on November 1st. Our Mass times will be as follows:

- Since November 1st falls on Friday, we will not have Adoration or Benediction on this day. All Souls’ Day falls on November 2nd, which would ordinarily be when we celebrate 1st Saturday Mass. This year we will have our Requiem Mass for All Souls’ at 10am, still offering confession at 9am. There will be a blessing of all souls at the cemetery following Mass.
- 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign: The Knights will stand vigil on Wednesdays (9/25 – 10/30) from 10-11am in front of Planned Parenthood (2964 Hydraulic Road) in Charlottesville. For carpool info or directions contact Larry Boice (434.510.7677). There is ample parking across the street from Planned Parenthood if you want to drive yourself.
- What do Good Shepherds, Ushers and the Bake Sale ministries all have in common? They all need help. If you want to learn more and think you can help, please call the office (434.589.5201) for more info.
- Sts. Peter and Paul Religious Store is open before/after Mass on Saturdays and after Mass on Sundays. You can contact the store via email at [email protected]. During October, make a minimum $20 purchase and receive a free Rosary.
- If you have misplaced any items in the church, come see Karen in the office; it’s where many lost things go.
- If you have recently changed your email address or phone number or signed up for Faith Direct and no longer need envelopes, please send a note to the office so we can update the system and make sure you don’t miss out on any information we have to share with you.
St. Joseph’s News:
- There will be a second collection this weekend for World Missions.
- The Knights are organizing a parish-wide clean-up day on Saturday, October 26th starting at 9:00am. Gutter guards are being installed on the parish hall and help is especially needed for this task.
- Trunk or Treat is happening on Friday, October 25th at Sts. Peter and Paul from 6:30 – 8:00pm. - Julie Kenney is selling tickets to the Spaghetti Dinner Scout Fundraiser at Sts. Peter & Paul on Oct. 19th. Find Julie in the hall after Mass to get your tickets.
- All Saints’ Day Mass will be on Friday, November 1st at 9am. All Souls’ Mass will be at Sts. Peter and Paul at 10am on November 2nd.
