27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Greetings!

Your bulletin: https://saintspeterpaulpalmyra.org/october-8th-2023/

Here are the highlights:

  • The showing of “Mikado” is tonight at 6:30pm. Come, even if you didn’t sign up!
  • Rosary Procession and Mass: this Saturday, October 7th at 10:00am, starting in front of the grotto of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
  • Second Collection this weekend is for Learn to Lead Campaign, developed by the diocese this year to help bring Catholic education to the children of Charlottesville and surrounding areas throughout the diocese. There will be envelopes available this weekend if you choose to participate.
  • Have you heard about the classical high school coming to Charlottesville in Fall 2024? Chesterton Academy of St. John the Evangelist will open with 9th and 10th graders and offer a faithfully and joyfully Catholic learning environment! There are 56 Chesterton Academies open across the country, and it’s growing exponentially.
  • Board member Kate McAleer will host an information table following the 9 am Mass at St. Joseph’s and the 11 am Mass at Sts. Peter and Paul. Come see if this school is a fit for your family! Whether you’re homeschooling or have kids in public or private school, parents love that Chesterton Academy offers a proven classical curriculum, a faithful environment, daily Mass, and a true sense of community.
  • Sts. Peter and Paul is seeking a part-time Director of Music as Sid gets ready to retire. See page 8 of today’s bulletin to find out more.
  • 40 Days for Life has kicked off their Fall campaign. If you would like to gather from 10-11am in peaceful protest in front of Planned Parenthood with other parishioners, they meet at Jefferson Pharmacy at 9am on Wednesdays through the month of October to carpool. If you like to drive yourself, there is ample parking nearby.
  • CHIU is in need of someone who can craft a shipping crate in order to send their medical supplies to Uganda ahead of their mission in January. Please contact Bob Maher at 434.589.1170 for details on size and when it needs to be completed.
  • The Youth Group Movie Night has moved to Wednesday. October 18th at 5pm.
  • The Craft Fair is coming, Saturday, November 11 from 8a-2p. The Crafters will start selling raffle tickets this weekend-they have an adorable doll house they have fixed up that makes me want to be 5 years old again! Plus, other baskets to raffle as well. Help is needed to set up and take down the craft fair. Please contact Cynthia (her number is inside the cover of the bulletin) if you are able to help.
  • You’re invited: to a World Youth Day presentation (TBD) in the Commons, after Mass. The pilgrims want to THANK YOU for helping them get there and share their experience with you through a slide show of photos they took.
  • *Alert* – the entrance to the parking lot will be blocked off beginning Monday, October 9th for repair work. This work is expected to take several days so there will be NO daily Masses from W – F and NO Bible Study on Monday. If you have business at the church, please use the Cemetery entrance for access. The office will be open. Sorry for the inconvenience but it will be worth it in the end.
  • Coming to St. Francis Hall: “The Letter: A Message for Our Earth”, an inspiring film about Pope Francis’ call to all of us to care for God’s creation. Two showings: Tuesday, October 17th at 7:00pm and Wednesday, October 18th at 10:00am. See p. 5.
  • A Catholic Store is coming to Sts. Peter and Paul. Be looking for more information to come.
  • Men’s Cursillo weekend – Thursday, October 26 (7:00pm) through Sunday, October 29 (5:00pm) at Camp Overlook near Harrisonburg. Application deadline is Oct. 12. See page 6 for details.
  • If you have a business and want to get the word out about it to help it grow, there is advertising space on the back of the bulletin. Your ad helps cover the cost of printing the bulletin. Contact Wendy Bond at 800.950.9952 x6420 for information.
