20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Greetings!

Your bulletin: https://saintspeterpaulpalmyra.org/august-20th-2023/

Here are the highlights:

  • Hope to see you at the CHIU Dinner and Talent Show, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, this Saturday, August 19 at 6:30pm! There is no fee but donations are gladly accepted. The funds raised from this event will help buy medications for the next medical mission to Uganda and pay for the doctors and nurses that will be helping during the mission at St. Anthony’s in Mitala Maria this January.
  • Fr. David will celebrate the annual Mass for Peace on Tuesday, August 22nd at 7:00pm.
  • Many of you may remember that I announced the passing of Barbara Sipress on July 20, 2023. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 31st at 10am. No 9am Mass that day.
  • If you know of anyone who has knowledge on how to repair asphalt or can advise on the best and economical way to repair the front entrance to the church parking lot, please refer them to Charlie Nicholson @ 434.365.9712.
  • Christmas in August has returned! See page 9 of today’s bulletin for information on acceptable items requested for the Fluvanna Correctional facility for women. Your generosity is so greatly appreciated.
  • We are in need of someone to clean the church and parish hall on a weekly basis. If you know of anyone that might be interested, please have them contact the office at 434.589.5201. This person must be dependable and have reliable transportation.
  • Our Cleaning Angels are seeking new members to help clean the Church before weekend Masses. A team of 3-4 volunteers rotate on a weekly basis, to prepare the Church. If you have some time to donate, please contact Lorna Jervis at 434.207.4410.
  • The next Senior Coffee Social is Wednesday, August 30th at 10am in the Commons.
  • The Crafters have returned! They meet every Thursday from 9:30 – 2:30 leading up to our annual Craft Fair in November. All are welcome to join. Bring a lunch, ideas, skills, and even supplies!
  • CCD and RCIA registration continues in the office (M-F until 3PM), or after weekend Masses throughout August; classes resume September 10th. The fee is $45 for the first child, $25 for each additional child.
  • August is National “Make-a-Will” month! A month dedicated to planning for the future and stewarding all that God has entrusted in your care. This month, take it a step further with Make-a-Will Sunday on August 20 – a day to set aside time to think through your estate plans (link). Through partnership with FreeWill, you can make or update your will in just 20 minutes for free and put all your intentions into action! FreeWill will give you lifetime access to make updates and changes to your plan at no cost.
  • Coming to St. Francis Hall: The MIKADO, an operetta by Gilbert & Sullivan; Friday, October 6 at 6:30pm. Save the date!
  • Men’s Cursillo weekend – Thursday, October 26 (7:00pm) through Sunday, October 29 (5:00pm) at Camp Overlook near Harrisonburg. See page 3 for details.

St. Joseph’s News:

  • Thank you Danielle Carter-Bledsoe for joining the Refreshment Committee. (I apologize for the misspelling of your name in the bulletin.)
  • See the bulletin for details on our next anniversary event or visit our website (saintjosephcolumbia.org) and click on the 140 anniversary link for a more extensive listing.
  • CCD registration continues this Sunday. See Celeste after Mass.
  • Please be on the lookout for a women’s silver fisherman’s link bracelet. A parishioner lost it at Mass on July 9th in the back of the church (they were in the shortest pew on the left). Please contact the office at 434.589.5201 if found.

Blessings for a beautiful weekend!
