2nd Sunday of Lent

Greetings!

Your bulletin: https://saintspeterpaulpalmyra.org/march-5th-2023/

Here are the highlights:

  • With a heavy heart, I announce the passing of former parishioner Kathy Saurman. Please pray for the repose of her soul and keep her husband, Frank in your prayers.
  • Youth Group: Sr. Madrine would like to inform all parents with children aged 12 years and older that we are going to resume the youth group activities. We will have a youth Mass which will take place on April 23rd which will be our kick-off project. We will meet from 2 – 4pm spanning several Saturdays (3/25, 4/15, and 4/22). If your children are in this age group, please plan on bringing them to these sessions. Thank you.
  • The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is coming to Saint’s Peter and Paul Parish. Daniel Kearns, the Executive Director of the Richmond Council, will hold an introductory meeting later this month — look for the date in next week’s bulletin. In the meantime, go to www.svdp-rvacouncil.org or contact Frank Pilk (571-239-3373) for more information.
  • To prepare for the Easter season Deacon Bob will conduct incense training for altar servers this Saturday, March 4th at 10am. Please be sure to attend if you missed the last one.
  • The monthly Bake Sale is back this weekend. If you have donations to drop off, please drop off before Mass. Thank you for supporting this effort, which benefits those in need.
  • Lenten Lunches return this Lenten season beginning today, February 24th in the Commons, after Stations of the Cross at noon. We can’t do it without your help! There is a sign-up sheet on the kitchen door in the Commons for those willing to contribute soup or sandwiches. Please fill in your name/phone #/what kind of soup or sandwich you’ll be bringing. Thank you in advance.
  • Fish Fry-days are BACK! The cost remains at $13. Times are as follows: Drive-thru only from 4:30-5:30pm; dine-in and drive-thru 5:30 – 7:00pm. The change in time will ideally cut-down on the wait both inside and out. Contact Doug Mullinex at 434.981.6950 with questions. Donations of desserts for these 6 weeks are greatly appreciated.
  • Lenten Coin cans are available at the entrance to the church. This year we will work to rebuild the Cash Reserve fund. Thank you for what you can do!
  • During the Lenten season, Mass will be celebrated on Tuesdays at Noon, beginning on February 28th.
  • Parish Lenten Penance Service is Tuesday, March 14th @7pm.
  • The Spring campaign for 40 Days for Life begins at the end of February. Sts. Peter and Paul has committed to vigil hours on Wednesdays, beginning March 1st from 10 – 11am in front of Planned Parenthood (2964 Hydraulic Road). A group of parishioners meet in front of Jefferson Pharmacy and depart promptly at 9 am. Anyone wishing to drive themselves can find ample parking across the street behind the Baptist church. These vigils are non-confrontational and meant solely to pray peacefully for the unborn. Hello and thank you to Bob, George, Catherine, Larry, Charlie, and John (taking the photo).
  • There will be a CHIU open house on Saturday, March 18th at 10am located in the Commons. Not only will you see photos from the most recent trip to Uganda but you will hear what CHIU is planning next.
  • We are excited to explore the idea of offering a Vacation Bible School this summer. We are looking for volunteers who would like to join in on the fun and assist with the planning. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15th at 6:30p in the Parish Hall to begin the planning discussions. More details to come. Feel free to bring suggestions, questions, or ideas to the meeting.
  • In an ongoing effort, sneakers are being collected to benefit CHIU (Catholic Health Initiatives for Uganda). It doesn’t matter the condition but sneakers only, please.
  • De Colores! – the next women’s Cursillo weekend, “Blessed, Broken, and Shared,” is May 18-21 in Massanetta Springs. Application deadline is April 26th.
  • Sts. Peter and Paul now has a weekly YOGA class on Tuesdays from 11-12 in the Hall. Direct questions to Renata Miller at 757.536.8408 or email [email protected].

  • St. Joseph is kicking off their 140th anniversary this weekend! We start with Mass at 11am on Saturday, followed by a potluck luncheon and a brief talk covering the history of the parish and the various events planned throughout the year. If you have memories to share, please contact the office.
  • Mass in Spanish at 2pm.
