PSALM 5:2-10, 12-13

S1: To my words give ear, O Lord,
give heed to my groaning.
Attend to the sound of my cries,
my King and my God.

S2: It is you whom I invoke, O Lord.
In the morning you hear me;
in the morning I offer you my prayer,
watching and waiting.

S1: You are no God who loves evil;
no sinner is your guest.
The boastful shall not stand their ground
before your face.

S2: You hate all who do evil;
you destroy all who lie.
The deceitful and bloodthirsty man
the Lord detests.

S1: But I through the greatness of your love
have access to your house.
I bow down before your holy temple,
filled with awe.

S2: Lead me, Lord, in your justice,
because of those who lie in wait;
make clear your way before me.

S1: No truth can be found in their mouths,
their heart is all mischief,
their throat a wide-open grave,
all honey their speech.

S2: All those you protect shall be glad
and ring out their joy.
You shelter them; in you they rejoice,
those who love your name.

S1: It is you who bless the just man
you surround him with favor as with a shield.

S2: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

A: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

L: Lord, all justice and all goodness comes from you; you hate evil and abhor lies. Lead us, your servants, in the path of your justice, so that all who hope in you may rejoice with the Church and in Christ.

A: I lift up my heart to you, O Lord, and you will hear my morning prayer.

R: A reading from Jeremiah  (Jeremiah 11:19-20)

Yet I, like a trusting lamb led to slaughter, had not realized that they were hatching plots against me: “Let us destroy the tree in its vigor; let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will be spoken no more.”

But, you, O Lord of hosts, O just Judge,
searcher of mind and heart,
Let me witness the vengeance you take on them,
for to you I have entrusted my cause!

The word of the Lord.

A: Thanks be to God.

SACRED SILENCE – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH _ Luke 1:68-79

L: Whoever follows me does not walk in the dark; he will have the light of life.

A: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

A: Whoever follows me does not walk in the dark; he will have the light of life.

L: Praise to Jesus, our Savior; by his death he has opened for us the way of salvation. Let us ask him: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

A: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

L: God of mercy, you gave us new life through baptism, make us grow day by day in your likeness.

A: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

L: May our generosity today bring joy to those in need, in helping them may we find you.

A: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

L: Help us to do what is good, right and true in your sight, and to seek you always with undivided hearts.

A: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

L: Forgive our sins against the unity of your family, make us one in heart and spirit.

A: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

L: Now added your own petitions in silence (PAUSE) Let us pray.

A: Lord, guide your people to walk in your ways.

L: Let us pray as Jesus taught us.

A: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

L: O God, by whose wondrous grace
we are enriched with every blessing,
grant us so to pass from former ways to newness of life,
that we may be made ready for the glory of the heavenly Kingdom.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

A: Amen.

L: During this Year of St. Joseph let us pray

A: Oh, Saint Joseph, foster-father of Jesus, most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray for us daily to the same Jesus, the Son of God, that we, being defended by the power of His grace and striving faithfully in life, may be crowned by Him at the hour of death. Amen.

L: The Lord be with you.

A: and with your Spirit.

L: May God bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

A: Amen

L: Go in peace.

A: Amen.
